The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – Chapter 5 The Wicked Witch of the West
Day 1: The Witch blows her silver whistle and forty Winged Monkeys arrived.
Day 2: ‘What do you want?’ the King of the Winged Monkeys asks.
Day 3: ‘There are three people, a dog and a lion on my road,’ the Wicked Witch says.
Day 4: ‘Go and kill them but bring me the lion,’ she says.
Day 5: ‘He is big and strong and can work for me,’ she says.

Day 1: The Winged Monkeys see the good witch’s kiss and do not hurt Dorothy.
Day 2: They take them to the Wicked Witch’s castle with the Lion.
Day 3: The Wicked Witch sees the kiss on Dorothy’s face.
Day 4: Now you are my prisoner and you must work in my house.
Day 5: ‘Clean this dirty kitchen!’ she says to Dorothy.

Day 1: Dorothy looks at her sadly and starts to clean the kitchen.
Day 2: ‘How can I go back to Kansas now?’ she thinks.
Day 3: Dorothy does not know her shoes are magic.
Day 4: The Wicked Witch knows and she wants them.
Day 5: One morning the Wicked Witch takes her left shoe when it falls off.

Day 1: The Wicked Witch quickly takes Dorothy’s shoe.
Day 2: ‘This is my shoe now!’ the Wicked Witch says.
Day 3: ’No, it isn’t!’ cries Dorothy angrily.
Day 4: Dorothy is very angry because she loves her silver shoes.
Day 5: She throws a bucket of water at the Wicked Witch.

Day 1: Now on the floor there is only the Wicked Witch’s black hat, her black dress and her silver whistle.
Day 2: Dorothy looks for her but cannot find her.
Day 3: She puts her left shoe on again.
Day 4: Now I am free and I can help my friends.
Day 5: Perhaps I can call the Winged Monkeys.
